‘Kenaram Becharam’, a play by eminent Bengali playwright, actor and director Manoj Mitra, will be brought to the stage today evening at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. Moitri Theatre will stage the play as a part of the ongoing 11-day ‘Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival’ 2018.

Directed by Kajol Majumdar, ‘Kenaram Becharam’ is a hilarious comedy which portrays the typical structure and social dilemmas of a Hindu lower-middle class family of that time and also the erosion of values and family ties in modern society.

The play features Becharam Chaterjee, a simple man who is not acknowledged by his own family and closed ones which lead him to feel unwanted and angry. One day, out of frustration Becharam leaves home. Becharam’s selfish family starts fighting over his property right after the very moment, thinking that he is not coming back. In order to get the reward money promised on finding Becharam, Nagen Panja, a con artist tries to pass off a vagabond Kenaram as Becharam using his skills of persuasion and deceit. The story moves forward here.

Besides, theatre troupe Nagorik Natyangan (Bangladesh) will stage their play ‘Kritodas-er Hashi’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA while Biborton Jessore will stage their play ‘Matobring’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall at the same time.
