Three-headed boy born in Pirojpur

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Pirojpur

A three-headed male baby was born in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur district yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

The baby was delivered at Fatema Clinic and Nursing Home in the upazila. His parents are Rehana Akter and Mamun Hawladar of Amua village under Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi district. Shahjahan Hawlader, grandfather of the newborn, told this correspondent that Rehana was admitted to Fatema Clinic with labour pain. She delivered the baby around 7:30am.

After the delivery, it was found that the baby has three heads. He has no genitals and his eyes are in the middle of the forehead. He weighs 3.7 kg. The child is quite ill after born.

Shahjahan Howlader said that his son, Mamun Hawladar, married  Rehana Akter four years back and this was their first child.

He also said that the baby's father worked in a shop in Dhaka. It was impossible for him to afford the treatment for the ill-formed baby, who was suffering from hydrocephalus, he added.

Dr. HM Zahirul Islam, a doctor of the Bhandaria upazila health complex, confirmed the baby's illness. He has been sent to Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College hospital for better treatment.
