Man held with arms, ammo

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested a man with three pistols, two magazines and 11 rounds of bullets from Kansat under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Sunday afternoon.

The arrestee was Manik, 30, son of Alam of Jamilnagar in Bogura district. RAB said acting on a tip-off an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided Kansat area at around 4:30 pm and arrested Manik with the firearms and ammunition.

Later, the arrested person was handed over to Shibganj thana police. A case was filed in this connection.

Man crushed under train

PANCHAGARH: A man died after being crushed under the wheels of a train in front of the signal point at Panchagarh Railway Station in Sadar upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as RamzanAli, 45, a ticket seller of bus service on Panchagarh-Ruhia route and son of Abul Kashem of Sadar upazila. Ramzan left his home over family feud in the morning, said Md Ezaruddin, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Police Station.

Later in the noon, his body was spotted at Panchagarh Railway Station, he said. Police were suspecting that Ramzan might have committed suicide, he added.

Youth held with Tk 50 lakh

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a youth along with Tk 50lakh from Putkhali border area under Benapole Police station yesterday afternoon.

The arrestee was identified as Bablur Rahman, 23, of Putkhali village under Benapole port police station, said Imran Ullah Sarker, director, 21 Border Guard Battalion.

The BGB official, in a press release, stated that the BGB men detained the man along with the hundi money from Putkhali frontier. A case was filed with Benapole police station.

Van driver found dead

NATORE: Police recovered the body of a van driver from Salainnagar area in Bagatipara upazila on Saturday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Pranto Sarder, son of Zia Sarder, hailing from Bagha upazila in Rajshahi district.

Proshanto Chandra Pramanik, sub-inspector of Bagatipara Police Station, said locals spotted the body with his hands and legs tied up with rope in a field in the morning and informed police.

Later, police recovered the body. The SI said that Pranto remained missing from Saturday after he went out of the house with his van.

48 held in special drives

SATKHIRA: Police, in special drives arrested 48 persons from eight upazilas of the district on Saturday morning, reports BSS.

Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.

The arrested people are accused in several cases, including charges of subversive activities, filed with different police stations in the district. The arrested were sent to jail.
