Shahabuddin’s exhibition begins at Creative Art Gallery

A three-week solo painting exhibition of internationally renowned artist Shahabuddin Ahmed has begun at the Creative Art Gallery of Shanto-Mariam Foundation in the capital’s Uttara area.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest on September 29. Besides, artist Nasim Ahmed Nadvi, art critic Moinuddin Khaled and founder of the Shanto-Mariam Foundation freedom fighter Imamul Kabir Shanto, among others, were present.

The exhibition showcases a total of 32 art works of artist Shahabuddin Ahmed, which includes 25 drawings and five printmaking works.

Artist Shahabuddin, a celebrated international persona and the national pride of Bangladesh, has been significantly represented in exhibitions all across Europe and Asia. His spectacular creations are in the collection of the Museum of Bourg-en~Bressein France, the National Museum of Bulgaria, the Olympic Museum of Lausanne in Switzerland, the Seoul Olympic Museum in Republic of Korea, the National Museum of Taiwan and Bangladesh National Museum other than in several noted private collections.

A protégée of late Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Shahabuddin is a revered national figure and a recipient of the prestigious Independence Day Award from the Bangladesh government for his contribution as a freedom fighter in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. The French government conferred upon him the prestigious civilian award Chevalier de I’ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight in the Order of Arts & Literatures) in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to the nation’s cultural clique.

The exhibition is open to all everyday from 10am to 8pm, until October 19.
