Following the survey, the government gave directives last year to nationalise the existing non-government schools in each upazila.

There were 335 old government high schools across the country. Later, the government nationalised 130 secondary schools, including 12 model schools. With the nationalisation of the 44 schools, the total number of nationalised high schools across the country now stands at 509.
