DU admission test starts Friday

The undergraduate admission under five units in 2018-19 academic sessions at Dhaka University (DU) will begin on Friday. The entry test of Business Studies Faculty disciplines under “Ga (C)-Unit” will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on September 14 at 54 exam centers inside and outside the DU campus. The exam centers outside the main campus are Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology and Engineering University School and College. A total of 26,960 students applied against 1,250 seats of Ga (C) unit, said a DU press release. The admission test of “Cha-Unit” (General Knowledge part) for admission into different disciplines under Faculty of Fine Art will be held at 10:00 am to 11:00 am on September 15 while the test of its Drawing part will be held on September 22. No electronic devices, including calculator, mobile phone, and electronic watch will be allowed into the exam halls, the release added. The test of “Kha (B) -Unit” for admission into different disciplines under Arts and Social Sciences faculties will be held on September 21, “Ka (A) – Unit” admission test for science group students will be held on September 28 and “Gha (D) -Unit” (combined unit) tests for science, business studies and humanities groups’ students on October 12. The admission seekers are asked to visit the university website (http://admission.eis.du.ac.bd) for seat plan and other detailed information. A total of 2,72,512 admission seekers have applied for undergraduate admission against 7,128 seats under five units in 2018-19 academic session at Dhaka University (DU).

JKKNIU team meets president

A delegation of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) met President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Monday. The JKKNIU team, led by its Vice-chancellor Prof AHM Mustafizur Rahman, apprised the president of overall academic and ongoing development works and future plans. During the meeting, the president asked the university authorities to maintain a congenial academic atmosphere onthe campus. He also stressed the importance of making students skilled in various sectors alongside the academic curricula. Abdul Hamid assured the university delegation of providing all-out cooperation in running the university activities. Secretaries concerned to the president were present.

Fisheries minister releases fish fry at DU

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda yesterday released various species of fish fry in the pond of Jagannath Hall at Dhaka University (DU). Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and Fisheries Department jointly  organised the programme. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof DrAkhtaruzzaman inaugurated the programme. Fisheries and Livestock minister addressed the programme as the chief guest while Jagannath Hall Provost Dr Asim Sarkar presided over the function. Senior officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, teachers and students of DU, residents of Jagannath Hall, among others, were also present on this occasion.

Inter dept cultural competition begins today at JU

A two daylong inter department cultural competition will begin today on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus. Jahangirnagar Theater (Auditorium), a drama based cultural organisation of the university is organising the competition. General Secretary of Jahangirnagar Theater Dipankar Dip confirmed The Independent yesterday. ‘Students of all departments of the university will able to take part at the competition. Cultural events of the competition are dance, drama, recitation and song’ he said. The competition will end on Thursday through giving award ceremony among the winners, he added.
