President Abdul Hamid asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to play an active role to ensure the accountability of all the universities as well as the quality of education, reports UNB. The President made the call at the 'UGC Gold Medal' distribution ceremony at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital yesterday.
"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took the breakthrough decision of establishing the Commission to promote higher education across the country. The number of public and private universities in the country has now reached at 150 with more than 39 lakh students enrolled there. Considering the number of students at the university level, Bangladesh has now achieved fourth place in the world after China, India and Indonesia," said the President.
