Professor Emeritus of New Zealand meets DU VC

Professor Emeritus of New Zealand’s University of Canterbury Dr Janinka Greenwood called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at the latter’s office of the university yesterday. Associate Professors of the Institute of Education and Research of DU Muhammad Nur-e-Alam Siddiquee, Dr Md Ariful Haque Kabir, Dr Abu Salahuddin and Dr Muhammed Mahbubur Rahman were present on the occasion, a DU press release said.

During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of strengthening ongoing collaborative academic and research programmes being conducted jointly by Dhaka University and the University of Canterbury.

Exchanges of teachers, students and researchers between the two universities were also discussed in the meeting.

Prof Shamsad Mortuza appointed ULAB Pro VC

Prof Shamsad Mortuza has been appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), says a press release.

President Abdul Hamid and Chancellor of ULAB appointed Prof Shamsad on September 6, 2018 for four years term.

Prof Mortuza joined ULAB as the Professor and Head of the Department of English and Humanities on August 1, 2016, and prior to that, as the Advisor of the Department from September, 2013. Before joining ULAB, Professor Mortuza taught at many universities including his alma mater Jahangirnagar University, where he was the Chair of the Department of English from 2006 to 2009.  He has over 24 years of teaching experience at different universities. He joined Jahangirnagar University as a Lecturer in 1994.

Nat’l conference on anthropology at JU today

SAVAR: A daylong national conference on anthropology will begin on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today.

With the slogan ‘Culture, Power and History’, JU Anthropology Department is organising the conference at the seminar room of the department.

Convener of the conference Professor Siddiqur Rahman made the discloser of the event today at a press conference held at the teachers’ lounge of Social Science Faculty.

‘We have organised the conference to uphold the diverse culture, power and history of the country where teachers of anthropology from different public universities will take part’, he said.JU Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam will inaugurate the conference as the chief guest at the seminar room of Zahir Raihan auditorium on the campus.

A total of 17 research papers on identity of post colonial societies, migration, health, power, visual media, social movement and gender will be presented at the function into six academic sessions of the conference.

Dean of Social Science Faculty Professor Rasheda Akhter and teachers of JU Anthropology Department were present at the press meet.
