Rainfall to increase in next 72 hours

With the low leaving the northwest Bay on Saturday and bringing the sea back to its normal self to generate the moisture needed to form clouds, the Met Office said yesterday (Monday) that there were chances of rain in the northern region from Mymensingh to Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions in the next 72 hours.

A few places in Dhaka division would get their share of rain too, said Abdur Rahman, a meteorologist at the Dhaka Met Office. The forecast for today says light to moderate thundershowers with temporary gusty winds at many places in Rangpur and Sylhet divisions. The same was predicted at a few places in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions and at one or two places in Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy fall at places in the northern region.

As the day progressed yesterday, rainless like Sunday, the temperature also shot up, resulting in another hot and humid day. The day’s highest maximum temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jashore for the second day, which was slightly less than Sunday’s 35.8C.
