Anamul eyes berth in next World Cup team

Sports Reporter

Wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy feels regret to not capitalise his stop-gap chance what he got performing for the national team after a two-to-three years-long hiatus.

Bijoy thinks that beginning a good start is always good for a player what he could not do it this time around. And so, the wicketkeeper-batsman said that he is attempting to focus on small things what is much needed for him to develop for the next chance. He also said that he has no chance for selection if not  perform better at the upcoming domestic cricket.

“If the beginning of anything is good, it is then possible to go a long way. This time when I resumed after a two-three year hiatus, I didn’t start a good start what was needed for me,” said Anamul Haque Bijoy, who restarted with the tri-nation series and then played against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe after returning to his national stint.

“That was a good chance for me to do well. As the beginning was not so well so there was an additional pressure on myself to do well in the West Indies tour,” Bijoy told a couple of media persons  after the end of the T20 match between High Performance (HP) and a national combined team.

“Now I’m trying how I can start a good start. I’m now finding out was I a bit aggressive or defensive in my batting in the West Indies,” he added.

“I have played seven matches, where the beginnings of the two-three matches have been fine but I could not extend any of these innings. Again I got a flying start in West Indies later I was dismissed by a simple delivery. If I could wait a bit and play more the ball, the innings could then be bigger. Actually, I am mulling on these small things. If I could catch these small things, it would then be better.”

“In tri-nation series, if I could extend 35 to 70-80 and 17 to 50 it’d be better not only for me but also for the team. I’ll work on these small things as we have more times ahead. National Cricket League (NCL) will start in October.”

The 25-year-old Bijoy, who played so far four Tests along with 37 ODIs and 13 T20 Internationals after being stepped into international cricket, said that he is eyeing to play the next World Cup and starts his preparation for it.

“My thinking is now around ICC World Cup 2019. We have now English coach. I talked with him about English condition. I’m taking my preparation from all aspects,” the right-handed batsman said.
