10 DU students get Shukomol Barua gold medals, scholarships

Ten meritorious students of Pali and Buddhist Studies Department of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded the ‘Buddhist Theorists Dr Shukomol Barua Gold Medal’ and scholarships for academic their excellence.

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman handed over the scholarships and certificates to the awardees at RC Majumder Arts auditorium on the campus on Thursday.

Sharmin Nahar and Prokal Chakma got the “Buddhist Theorists Dr Shukomol Barua Gold Medal” for 2015 and 2016. They will receive the gold medals at the 51st convocation of DU on 6th October. ‘Shukomol Barua Scholarship-2016’ recipients are- Lipi Akhtar, Swapna Rani Mandal, KM Aftabul Islam Tanmay, Arpana Roy, Mst Snigdha and Prakat Chakma while the ‘Shukomol Barua Scholarship-2017’ recipients are- Mst Ashamoni Akhter, Mujahid Hossain, Tarun Biswas and Suraiya Sharmin.

Congratulating the students, Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, “Professor Dr Shukomol Barua possessed unique values in his struggling life. Establishment of this trust to give inspiration to the students, he virtually manifested a non-communal trait.”

He also congratulated the parents of the awardees for their contributions to their children’s success. Donor of the trust fund Prof Sukomal Barua’s daughter Sanghamitra Barua Manoshi gave vote of thanks while Pali and Buddhist Studies Department Professor Dr. Biman Chadra Barua gave welcome speech.

NU 4th year honours results published

The results of fourth year honours examinations-2017 under National University (NU) were published on Thursday with 83.5 percent pass rate.

The published results are available on the university websites – www.nu.ac.bd, a NU press release said. The students could also know their results sending SMS to 16222 from any telecom operator following the format nu< >H4< >Roll number. A total of 1, 33,113 students in 30 subjects from 549 colleges across the country appeared in the examinations under the university. The Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) of the four-year results will be published on the NU website at 5.00 pm on September 9 next.

Syndicate meeting of Gono Bishwabidyalay held

The 8th syndicate meeting of Gono Bishwabidyalay was held at the conference room of Vice-Chancellor yesterday, says a press release. Gono Bishwabidyalay Vice-Chancellor (current) Prof Laila Parveen Banu presided over the meeting.

Prof Amirul Islam Chowdhury, Prof Abul Qasem Chowdhury, Syndicate Members and Trustees of Gono Bishwabidyalay, Prof Sharif Enamul Kabir, Former Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Prof Md Taibul Hasan Khan, Department of History, Jahangirnagar University, Prof Sharifullah Bhuyian, Department of History, Dhaka University, Prof Monsur Musa, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Gono Bishwabidyalay, were present in the meeting.  The members of the syndicate discussed and approved minutes of the 7th syndicate meeting, and 15th academic council meeting. At the same time the members decided to recommend for approval of the audit report of 2016-2017 fiscal year, budget of 2018-2019 fiscal year and other proposals to the Trustee Board.
