‘The Alchemist’ on Shilpakala stage today

Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will stage yet another show of its play ‘The Alchemist’, a play based on a novel of the same title by Paulo Coelho, at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The play will be brought to the stage today at 5pm as a part of the five-day theatre festival organised by Industrial Development Leasing Company of Bangladesh Limited (IDLC).

An allegorical novel ‘The Alchemist’ follows a young Andalusia shepherd in his journey to the pyramids of Egypt, after having a recurring dream of finding a treasure there. The 100-minute stage performance is dramatised and directed by Reza Arif, who is an associate professor of JU’s Drama and Dramatics Department.

On the other hand, Theatre (Bailey Road) will bring its much-acclaimed production ‘Mukti’, an adaptation of Lee Blessing’s famous play ‘Independence’, today at 7:30pm at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. Translated and scripted by Mizarul Kayes, the casts of the play include Tropa Majumdar, Ferdousi Mojumdar, Tamanna Islam, Tanjum Ara Poly, Tanveen Sweety and others.
