UNB

A suspected robber and an alleged criminal were killed in separate 'gunfights' with police in Bagura and Narayanganj districts, reports UNB. In Bogura, suspected criminal Akand, 32, of Manik chawak area, was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Matidhali Pollimangal in Sadar upazila early yesterday. Being tipped-off that a gang of criminals were taking position in the area, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2 am, said Sanatan Chakrawarty, additional superintendent of Bogura (sadar circle) police.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, criminals opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back. At one stage, Akand caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. In Narayanganj, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Asharier Char in Sonargaon upazila. The deceased was identified as Mobarak, 50, of the upazila.

Being tipped-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the night coaches passing through the area, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 4 am, said Sharafat Ullah, officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station. Sensing the presence of the law enforcer, the robbers opened fire to the law enforcers, prompting them to take action. At one stage, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Mobarak while the others managed to flee the scene. One shutter gun and two bullets were recovered from the spot.
