Shanto injured prior to Asia Cup

Sports Reporter

Nazmul Hossain Shanto hurt his left thumb during a practice session yesterday, leaving the selectors to think about potential replacement as the Asia Cup is knocking the door. The incident happened while he was taking part in a fielding drill and was taken to hospital for further assessment.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu however said they would take the decision about the replacement of him after getting the final report of the physicians.

“We will think about his replacement once we’ll obtain his report from the physicians,” Abedin told the reporters.

Soumya Sarkar is the potential replacement while Mominul Haque is also in the contention. But the BCB senior physician Dr. Devashis Chowdhury is yet to rule Shanto out.

“We can’t rule him out as there is no fracture in his injured place. We’ll observe his condition,” Devashis said. “We told the coach to give us 48 hours for a final assessment.”

Bangladesh will leave the country for Asia Cup on September 9.
