MP Rana denied bail

11 armed aides held during demo on court premises

A Tangail court denied a bail plea of MP Rana in a murder case when police arrested 11 of his supporters and recovered arms and ammo during a demonstration on the court premises yesterday.

Additional SP of Tangail Sariful Hoque said that Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, the MP from Tangail 3(Ghatail) constituency, was taken to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Maksuda Khanoom in connection with the murder of AL leader Farook Ahmed as prime accused.

Supporters of Farook Ahmed brought out a procession on the court premises and chanted slogans demanding punishment for Rana and his associates. Supporters of Rana brought out a counter-procession in front of Shamsul Hoque gate.

Police urged them to leave the street but they went on staging their protest. Police threw two rounds of tear shells at 12:00AM and charged baton to disperse them and arrested 11 persons in front of Tangail Medical College. Police recovered one foreign pistol, 8 rounds of bullets and 2 magazines from two supporters of MP Rana.

The court fixed the time of bail verdict at 4:00PM. The court fixed the date of deposition of witness on September 27. Rana was taken to Tangail jail amid tight security first then to Kashimpur jail. Additional forces have been deployed in Tangail town to avert deterioration of law and order.

It is to be noted that FF and AL leader Farook Ahmed was killed on 18 January 2013. Nahar Ahmed, wife of the deceased, lodged a case implicating MP Rana and his three of his brothers and they were chargesheeted in the murder case later.
