Monodrama ‘Panchanari Akkhayan’ to be staged today

Dhaka Theatre will stage yet another show of its audience-admired play titled ‘Panchanari Akkhayan’ today at 7:30pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The play will be staged today as a part of the five-day theatre festival organised by Industrial Development Leasing Company of Bangladesh Limited (IDLC).

Written by Harun Rashid, the play was directed by Shahiduzzaman Selim. Rosy Selim is the featured artiste of this monodrama. The play narrated life stories of women, their struggles for rights and humiliation, through the portrayal of five different women characters from five different contexts of the society. Here Rosy Selim will play the role of Julekha, Nazma, Monoroma, Moriom and Momtaz.

Afzal Hossain is in the stage direction while Shimul Yusuff and Chandan Chowdhury are the music directors of the play. Nasrin Nahar designed the costumes while Wasim Ahmed is in light design. The play is the 37th production of the troupe.

On the other hand, theatre troupe BotTala will stage its 8th production ‘Crutcher Colonel’, an adaptation of eminent novelist Shahaduzzaman’s novel of the same name ‘Crutcher Colonel’, at the Experimental Hall of BSA at 5pm.

The play ‘Crutch-er Colonel’ portrays the life of one of the masterminds of the November 7 coup Colonel Taher, who was executed in 1976. During the Liberation War, a high-achieving officer of the Pakistan army Lieutenant Colonel Taher was appointed the Sector Commander for Sector 11.  

During the five-day festival, a total of ten prominent theatre troupes are participating. The participating troupes are Theatre, Nagorik Natya Sampraday, Dhaka Theatre, Padatik Natya Sangsad, Palakar, BotTola, Prachyanat, Prangonemor, Dhaka University’s theatre and performance studies department and Jahangirnagar University’s drama and dramatics department.
