Various programmes on 22nd death anniv today

Today marks the 22nd death anniversary of Salman Shah, the iconic hero passed away on this day in 1996. Immensely popular in his time, the young actor captured the hearts of the fans and audience of all classes through his stellar performance.

To mark the occasion, Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA) has come up with special initiative, which includes offering special prayers and reciting from the holy Quran. The event will take place in the study room of BFAA after Asr prayer, general secretary of BAFF Jayed Khan has confirmed the news.

Besides, satellite TV channel Boishakhi will air an array of programmes to mark the day. The TV channel will air a show titled ‘Musical Album’ produced by Shah Alam at 9:10am, while musical programme ‘Ebong Cinemar Gaan’ produced by Sharmin Dipti will be aired at 1:15pm. Also, Salman Shah-acted two films ‘Swapner Thikana’ and ‘Bichar Hobe’ will be aired at 2:45pm and 12midnight respectively.

On the other hand, September 19 marks the 47th birth anniversary of Salman Shah. To celebrate the occasion in a befitting manner, Salman Shah Smriti Parishad is going to organise an event titled ‘Salman Shah Utsab Ebong Tarar Mela’ on September 29 at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises in the capital.

Salman Shah (Shahriar Chowdhury Emon: 19 September, 1971 – 6 September, 1996), who had been and still is a shining star in the sky of the country’s film industry. Making his first appearance on silver screen with the debut film titled ‘Keyamat Thekey Keyamat’ directed by Sohanur Rahman Sohan, he entered into the Bangladesh film industry and changed the typical image of a Bangladeshi actor. The legendary and popular film actor took the film industry to a new horizon where the film lovers of Bangladesh witnessed a hero with multitalented qualities to be a real hero and, especially, they got their own romantic hero, for whom they waited for a long time.

He just took the country’s filmdom by storm with his brilliant performance, won the heart of thousands and turned the moviegoers back to the cinemas. Bangladesh film industry and film lovers travelled through a new era of the film with the presence of Salman Shah and ultimately, he became the ‘Dream Star’ and heartthrob of moviegoers of all ages within very short time.  

Salman Shah died on September 6 in 1996. His untimely death sent shock waves across the film industry as well as his adoring fans.

In his short film career he acted in as many as 27 films. He had starred in many successful films, including: ‘Keyamat Thekey Keyamat’, ‘Antorey Antorey’, ‘Bikkhov’, ‘Denmohor’, ‘Bichar Hobe’, ‘Ei ghor ei Shongshar’, ‘Jibon Shongshar’, ‘Chaowa Theke Paowa’, ‘Anondo Osru’.
