Janmashtami celebrated

GAIBANDHA: Janmashtami, the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna and one of the biggest religious festivals of Hindu communities, was celebrated in all the seven upazilas in the district on Sunday with due religious fervor and much enthusiasm, reports BSS.

According to Hindu belief Lord Krishna came on the earth to destroy evil and establish in triumph of good.So the teachings of Krishna are very important to establish peace and prosperity in the trouble-torn word. His preaching in Bhagvad Geeta is still guiding light for the followers of the Hindu religion.

Marking the day, Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad (BPUP), district unit, chalked out the elaborate programmes. The programmes included prayers of Lord Krishna, Puja gathering, Kirtan, Ramayan gaan and recitation from the holy Geeta and the Jagya and distribution of prasad and feeding to the poor seeking divine blessing for the peace and progress of the country.

Apart from it, a discussion organised by BPUP, district unit, was also held on the premises of the V-AID Road Kalibari Temple of the town at noon. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief guest and superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah was present as the special guest.

With president of BPUP, district unit, Ranajit Bakshi Surjya in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by president of district Awami League Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, general secretary of BPUP, district unit Dipak Kumar Pal, principal Paresh Chandra Sarker, and senior journalist Gobinda Lal Das.Later, a big colorful rally led by DC Gautam Chandra Pal and SP Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah was brought out from the temple and paraded the main roads of the town.

In Netrakona, Janmashtami was observed on Sunday with pomp and gaiety and due religious fervor. Different socio-cultural and religious organisations chalked out elaborate programs to celebrate the day.

The programs included recitation from holy Geeta, worshiping of Sree Krishna, bringing out of traditional Janmashtami processions, holding of discussion meeting and offering of special prayers for welfare of the nation and the country.
