Minhajul Abedin Nannu, selection panel chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is optimistic about the Tigers’ squad and stating that he believes the team they have given for the next Asia Cup has every possibility of faring well in UAE.

Bangladesh announced their squad for the 50-over tournament on August 30, whereby all the players, who last played in the West Indies series baring wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy, all-rounder Sabbir Rahman Rumman and Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi.

Both Bijoy and Rumman dropped out of the team for the Asia Cup owing to their patchy run of forms. Wicketkeeper-batsman Bijoy scored 33 (0, 23 and 10), while all-rounder made 25 (3, 12 and 12) in the three-match ODI series against the hosts West Indies.

Fast bowler Abu Haider Rony has been taken in place of Rahi, who played only Test and T20 series in the Caribbean Islands where he did well.

“We are, of course, hopeful. It has been stood a best possible side,” said Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

“Asia Cup is a big event, in where playing will be very challenging,” Nannu told a couple of media in Mirpur.

“But I believe as we played better cricket in the last editions of the Asia Cup. So, I firmly believe we could be played a better brand of cricket in Asia Cup,” he added.

BCB selection panel chairman plunked for the board action and said that discipline breaker will not be spared whoever he is.

The board slapped a six-month suspension on Sabbir Rahman Rumman for abusing a fan on facebook though his overall disciplinary breaches have been considered for his current punishment.

“Indiscipline will not be tolerated at all,” the former captain said.

“As Sabbir has been punished, other players will not be spared if they break any discipline or BCB court of conduct. Whatever player he is if he does any wrong or break discipline he will be under the purview of the punishment,” he also said.

“So, every player has to be disciplined and has to carry out the service rules and code of conduct of the board,” he added.

However, following a week-long fitness camp, Bangladesh cricket team started their real practice with bat and ball at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday ahead of the ACC Asia Cup-UAE 2018.

They batted and bowled at center wickets of the home of cricket for a longer period in both morning and evening session.

Spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi returned Dhaka from India and joined the team’s first skills training session, which was going on under the guideline of the head coach Steve Rhodes along with strength and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayan since August 27. . Spinner Nazmul Islam Apu returned to business from his injury layoff. The spinner bowled at center wicket of the SBNCS by the guideline of Sunil Joshi.

Other coaching staffs will follow Joshi as fielding coach Ryan Cook was due to arrive here today (Sunday), fast-bowling coach Courtney Walsh are slated to come back in Dhaka on Monday, and batting consultant Neil McKenzie, who joined the Tigers tent in Caribbean Islands while the series against the hosts West Indies was going on, will also come on Tuesday.

The ongoing preparation camp for the Asia Cup will go on till September 6. After taking two-day rest, the Tigers will fly to United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the showpiece event on September 9.

They will set their base camp in Dubai, in where they will play two practice matches against local teams to dovetail with the weather and condition of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

They will embark on their Asia Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 15 and later face off Afghanistan in the last Group-A match of the six-team all Asian competition.
