BPL teams won’t enjoy to take unlimited foreign stars

Sports Reporter

BPL franchisees will not get chance of registering unlimited foreign players out of the players draft for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament.

I H Mollick, member secretary of the BPL Governing Council came up with the remark at the BCB headquarters of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

“Today we sat with the BPL franchisees. We will start BPL on January 5. For this, we have finalised some decisions,” said I H Mollick.

“Players draft will be held on October 25. This year the review system in BPL will be inducted. Each team could take a review in an innings. An overseas umpire will attend in a match,” Mollick told media.

“Each team could retain four players whose names have to be sent to BPL governing council within September. Each team could pick two players out of the draft. The rest of the players has to buy from the players draft. Those who played last year BPL such foreign players’ names would be stayed in the draft. Along with that, those who was not in the last edition of the draft from them two players have to pick. But the starting date might be advanced at best a day,” he added.

Mollick while clarifying his decision, “There are many more standard players out of the draft. The others league across the world will start at the same time of the BPL. As a result, each team could pick two unregistered players for their team.”

The cash-rich Twenty20 tournament is scheduled to start on January 5, 2019.  It was actually slated to take place in between October-November 2018 but it has been delayed owing to the country’s upcoming general election to be held in December this year.

But I H Mollick, member secretary of the BPL Governing Council hints that the start date of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) next edition might be come a day ahead.

The council announced BCB director Sheikh Sohel as BPL governing council (acting) chairman. The post was vacant after BCB director Afzalur Rahman Sinha died on August 8.
