A Jhenidah institute has been providing training in gardening, beautification, and establishment of mini-park inside institutions as part of their overall teaching package for primary school teachers.

Moreover, the trainees have been learning behavioural change, action research, and case study writing. The institute is known as the Primary Training Institute or PTI, Jhenidah.

Trainees in an 18-month residential training course praised the institution as a model centre. The centre’s goal is to create good teachers and conscious citizens.

They said the academic schedule and the environment were both attractive. A mini park, a beautiful garden with flowers, children’s amusement centre called the Shishusharga and the Muktijuddho Corner commemorating the Liberation War were some of the centre’s chief attractions. Anandi Biswas, an assistant teacher of Baghergachhi government primary school, was doing a bit of gardening when this correspondent met her. She said she was lucky to get a chance to learn gardening and beautification and how to create a mini-park in school compounds.

She said she was also learning good manners and etiquette in the training course. The trainees were also learning how to prepare case studies, and helping them to assess past and present activities, Anandi Biswas said.

Mokimpur government primary school teacher Bilkis Nahar, and others such as Ali Naous, Majid Mandal, Abdus Salam and Farzana Akter said the training course had changed their outlook and helped them to think “positively”.

Trainee Shimu Biswas said the Muktijuddho O Bangabandhu Bishayak Corner was reminder to the trainees about the history of the language movement and the freedom movement of 1971.

At present, the institution is providing training to 238 teachers to become good citizens and mobilize local resources for a sustainable development, Shimu Biswas said.

The trainees felt every primary school teacher should undergo this training so that they could give lessons to children with modern equipments and information.

Superintendent of Jhenidah PTI Atiar Rahman said he along with the teachers and staff of the institution have been trying to establish the centre as a universal one. Established in 1964 at Hamdah in Jhenidah town, the institution has been providing training for diploma in education (DP Ed) course. The trainees are given modern, technology-based education to prepare them better for information and communication technology (ICT) and prepare digital contents themselves on power point. They are expected to pass on their knowledge to the future generation, the superintendent said.

The Superintendent said he constructed a lucrative experimental school and selected a classroom as Sishusharga with local funds. The entire institution area became a wifi zone to ensure better communication. CCTV cameras were set up for safety of the trainees, minor learners and the staffs. Equipment for digital attendance of the teachers and staff was under the process of installation.

Atiar Rahman said the Jhenidah PTI was selected as the best institution in 2014.
