8 to die for murder in Natore, Jhenidah

Natore, Jhenidah: Eight people were sentenced to death for murder in Natore and Jhenidah yesterday. In Natore, a court yesterday sentenced five people to death and two others to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Singra upazila in 2004, reports UNB. The condemned convicts are Hafizur Rahman, Bulu, Khalilur Rahman, Majibur Rahman Majid and Monir Hossain while the lifers are Abdul Hakim and Nazrul Islam.

Among them, four convicted remain absconding. According to the prosecution, the convicted people picked up lessee Abdul Kader Dudu from his house on February 3 in 2004 over the previous enmity. Later, they gunned him down and stabbed to death at a local market.

On the following day, the victim’s wife filed a murder case with case Singra Police Station.

After examining all the records and witnesses,Natoreadditional district and session judge Mohammad Saifur Rahman Siddiq handed down the verdict.

Our Jhenidah correspondent adds: A court convicted three people and sentenced them to death for killing a college student in 2011.

The condemned convicts are Imran Hossain, Nasim Biswashand Manirul Islam Mukul. Of them, Mukul was tried in absentia.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each.

According to the prosecution, Imran Hossain, a student of Jhenaidah college and a resident of Laudia village in Sadar upazila, was found dead at Sikarpur village on October 22, 2011.

Nazrul Islam, father of Imran filed a case with Sadar Police Station.

After investigation, police submitted chargesheet against four people on June 23, 2012.

After examining records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge GolamAzam handed down the verdict acquitting one accused as allegation brought against him could not be proved.
