Men’s kabaddi team aims to regain bronze in Asiad

Sports Reporter

Targeting to regain some glory of winning at least the Bronze medal, Bangladesh kabaddi team is going to Jakarta on August 17 and they will begin their campaign from August 19 in the ensuing 18th Asian Games.

About the preparation and the prospect of the team, head coach Subimal Chandra Das and team’s best performer Ziaur Rahman Zia talked to The Independent on Thursday after a practice session.

Subilmal, though having a long time practice for the Games is not fully satisfied as they got no opportunity to play any preparation match before  going to Jakarta. “We started camp from December 5 last year, I can say my boys are in good shape, but one thing is important, I have a lapse, that is I could not evaluate their performances, as we did  not play any practice match, so I could not analysis the teamwork and team combination, match temperament, actually there is no option but to play preparation match to build a team perfectly.”

“No, there will be no scope to play any preparation match, as most probably we will reach there on August 16 at 11am, on Aug 17 we have managers’ meeting and on Aug 18 we have to join in the opening ceremony and on Aug 19 we have first match,” Subimal replied to a query.

“We are yet to know the grouping, but the top teams India, Korea, Iran and Pakistan will split into two groups, we will have to face any of the top two teams and will have to beat any of them then we will able to go in a position.”

“We worked hard, have good practice, now we have no option but to do something good, as we have no medal in the last two editions. My overall target is to regain our glory winning the bronze, then we will set next target, I am 100 per cent optimistic that our players will do well,” Subilmal expressed his target and confidence.

“I have four players - Arduzzaman, Zakir Hossain, Tuhin Tarafdar, Ziaur Rahman Zia, played in the pro-kabaddi in India and have four fresh blood.”

“Boys are determined, motivated, it is big challenge, it is our national game, it is our prestige to win medal,” said Submal.

Ziaur Rahman Zia, highly satisfied with the long term practice for the Asia Games when the number one player in Bangladesh team said, “This time preparation is better than previous times, because this time the camp have been going on for last nine months.”

“This time if we look to our experience, almost all of us have a long preparation plus four of us  played in Pro-Kabaddi League in India, you know it is a world class kabaddi competition where world’s top class players play in this league.”
