Rhodes works for formation of Bangladesh team
Steve Rhodes

Even though Steve Rhodes, the new head coach of the Bangladesh team, started his coaching stint with the West Indies tour, he basically works for the preparation and furnish the true combination of the team by picking the right players for the next ICC Cricket World Cup, England and Wales-2019.

The extravaganza event, which is just nine months away from now, is scheduled to commence on May 30, 2019 to July 15, 2019.

Rhodes flatly told media  upon his arrival from Florida, the United States of America (USA) that he started his next World Cup preparation.

The English-born coach said that he has already seen a crop of around 15 to 16 players throughout the games across the formats in Caribbean islands and Florida since the last one and half-a-months. Now he needs some more boys what he will find out from the Bangladesh ‘A’ Team, BCB High Performance (HP) team in the next weeks before the outset of the training camp for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Bangladesh will launch their preparation camp on August 27, just five-day after the conclusion of the Eid-ul-Azha vacation. This time the board will call 30 players in their provisionary squad keeping the next tight international assignments-Asia Cup, Afghanistan and West Indies series on the trot.

They will then play Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), New Zealand and Ireland series before the World Cup.

Rhodes also said that he will look at the other BCB-oriented teams along with the national and its second string team to pick the talent and potential players.  He desires to travel to Dublin, Ireland to witness Bangladesh ‘A’ Team in action in Twenty20 this week.

“It’s important for me to know the next crop of players,” said Steve Rhodes.

“Already I have seen around 15 to 16 players. Hopefully I will get chance to observe couple of more cricketers in Ireland,” Rhodes told media before leaving Dhaka for London.

“I’m going to Ireland to be watching a T20 game of Bangladesh ‘A’ Team,” he added.

It is learnt from the insiders of the BCB that Steve Rhodes has meanwhile been convinced from the board what they want and their expectation from the next ICC Cricket World Cup- 2019 because the board also thinks that all the senior key players will perform together in the showcase event. It’ll be the last World Cup for some of them. And so, the board thinks that this might be their last chance to clinch a trophy what they have earnestly been expecting for the last few years.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon also admitted the news of their meeting with Steve Rhodes and said that they told their coach what he wanted to know from them.
