Prof Dr Mofizur new UIU VC

Prof Dr Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of United International University (UIU).

President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the UIU, appointed him for a term of four years, says a press release of the university.

Prof Rahman obtained his PhD and MSc in Computer Science from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1996 and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1992 respectively. He obtained his BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from BUET in 1989. He was a former Prof of BUET. He also served the Department of CSE of BUET in 2000-2001. Earlier, he was the Pro-Vice Chancellor of United International University for consecutive three terms. A total of 119 research articles by Prof Rahman have been published in national and international journals.

KUET admission test Oct 27

KHULNA: The admission test for the first year Honours courses under 2018-19 academic session of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) will be held on October 27.

The online application process of the admission will begin at 10am on September 13 and will continue till 11:59pm on September 23, according to a Kuet press release.

The last date for submission of applications is September 24. This year, some 1,065 students will be able to enroll in 16 departments under three faculties.

7 DU students get Bangamata gold medal

Seven female students of different departments of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded ‘Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold Medal, Scholarship,’ said a DU press release.

Farhana Yasmin of Urdu Department was conferred the ‘Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold Medal’. Besides, Sumona Akhter Sumi and Jannatul Ferdaus Irin of Marketing Department, Nasrin Jebin of Peace and Conflict Department, Mst Muhfiqa Jahan of Information Science and Library Management Department, Shaolin Shaon of Television, Film and Photography Department and Umme Salma of Finance Department received the ‘Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold Medal, Scholarship’.

Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University (DU) organised the programme titled “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Gold Medal, Scholarship, Memorial lecture and Discussion” on Wednesday evening on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Md. Akhtaruzzaman gave away the gold medals and cheques for the scholarships among the awardees as the chief guest. DU Treasurer and Trust Fund President Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin addressed the programme as the special guest. Renowned fiction writer and novelist Selina Hossain presented Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial lecture on the occasion. Paying rich tribute to the memory of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, DU VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said, “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib played a vital role in the success of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in leading the country towards the independence struggle.”

Workshop on career held at JU

SAVAR:  A daylong career oriented workshop titled ‘Career Masterclass 1.0’ was held on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus yesterday.

Rotaract Club of the university unit and Monon Foundation, a social awareness initiative, jointly organised the programme at the seminar room of Zahir Raihan auditorium.

Presided over by President of Rotaract Club of the university unit Jahirul Islam Tamim, noted mosquito researcher and also the advisor of the organization Professor Kabirul Bashar addressed the function as the chief guest. Besides, Chairman of JU Public Administration department Associate Professor Jebunnesa addressed the function as special guest. At the function, the participants were imparted training on career choice, presentation, communication skills and CV writing. Brigadier General (Retd) Mirza Baker, Director of Office and Placement Romee Tareque Moudud, President of Bangladesh Organisation of Learning and Development Quazi M Ahmed delivered motivational speech about carrier development at the function.
