BSS

The Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Savar Tannery Industrial City will be introduced soon since about 98 per cent construction works of the plant has already been completed, reports BSS. The information was revealed yesterday at a view-exchange meeting held between Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and the representatives of the tannery industry related organisations and institutions at the Industries Ministry in the capital, an official release said.

Speaking at the meeting, Amu said the owners of the allotted plots in the industrial city will have to bear the construction cost of the CEPT and pay land registration fee at the same time. “The construction works of CEPT is going to be completed. The CEPT is working well to purify chemical waste. We also give priority on road repair in the tannery industrial city. The road repairing works will be completed within three months,” he added.

Mentioning the tannery as the second largest export sector, the Industries Minister said the government is set to export goods worth US$5 billion from the tannery industry in 2021.

He said the Industry Ministry will suggest the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to provide the “Central Bonded Warehouse” facilities for chemical import. Industries Secretary Mohammad Abdullah, Bangladesh Small and Cottage industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman Mustak Hassan M Iftekhar and Director General of Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) Sardar Abul Kalam were, among others, present at the meeting.
