2 workers killed in Jamalpur boiler blast incident

Two workers of an auto rice mills were killed as a boiler of the rice mill blasted in Baghadoba area under Melandah upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The victims are identified as Abdul Karim, 45, hailed from Sherpur district and Mintu, 35, of Baghadoba village in Melandah upazila of the district. Officer-in-charge Melandah police station Azizur Rahman said the incident occurred as the boiler of Kulsum Auto Rice Mills suddenly blasted at about 10 am, causing instantaneous death to two workers. After the accident police recovered the bodies and sent to Jamalpur general hospital morgue.

Body of drowned varsity girl recovered from Meghna

Brahmanbaria: The body of a female student of a private university, who along with another mate went missing while taking bath in Meghna River at Char Sonarampur on Saturday, was recovered from rail bridge area in Ashuganj upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Sanzida Binte Tanvir, 21, a student of Computer Science and Engineering department of Notre Dame University in the city.

Badrul Alam Talukder, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station, said seven students of the private university went on a boat journey at Char Sonarampur on Saturday. At one stage, two students-Sanzida and Ishrak alias Mehrab, 20--went missing in the river while taking bath in the evening. On information, divers of local fire service station in association with the members of Bangladesh Navy rushed in and started the rescue operation. Later on Sunday morning, the body of Sanzida was found floating in the river around11am. However, the search operation was continuing till filing of this report.

UP member killed in Munshiganj speedboat accident

Munshiganj: A unionparishadmember was killed and ten others injured when a speedboat turned turtle after being hit by a ferry at Shimulia Ghat area here yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Sufiya Begum, 60, a member of Hashara Union Parishad in Srinagar upazila and wife of Selim Sheikh of Hashara village.

Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Louhajang Police Station, said a speedboat carrying 18 passengers turned turtle after being hit by a ferry while heading to Kathalbari from Shimulia Ghat around 9:15 am, leaving Sufia killed and injuring ten others. Khandaker Shah Mohammad Khaled, assistant general manager of BIWTC Shimulia Ghat, said the other passengers of the speedboat were rescued.

Two killed in road accidents

Two people including a child were killed and three injured in separate road crashes in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh yesterday.  

A 10-year old girl identified as Sara Moni died on the spot and three others injured when a Mymensingh bound truck hit another truck from behind at Trishal upazila headquarters on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 4.30am, said Md Jakiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station.  The injured were admitted to Mymensingh medical College Hospital (MMCH).

In another accident, on the same highway at Kazir Shimla, Raju Mia, 28, died on the spot when a truck hit a covered van around 6.30am, said the OC. Police seized the vehicles but the drivers managed to flee. On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to MMCH morgue for autopsy. Separate cases were lodged.

Discussion to provide safe food in Naogaon hotels

Naogaon: A view exchange meeting on “Safe Food Act 2013 and Food Security” was held yesterday aiming at providing safe food to people in hotels in the district, reports BSS.

District food department, district administration and food safety management committee here organised the meeting in association with district hotels and restaurant owner’s association, a press release said today. Deputy Commissioner Md Mizanur Rahman was present as the chief guest with district food officer Md. Abdus Salam in a chair. Civil surgeon Dr Md Mominul Haque, district sanitary inspector Md Shamsul Haque, district press club president Mohammad Kayes Uddin and district hotel restaurant owner association president Kazi Ziaur Rahman Bablu spoke on the occasion.
