STAFF REPORTER, Ctg
Mother, daughter found dead in water tank in Ctg

Police yesterday recovered the bodies of elderly woman and her daughter from the reserve water tank at Meher Manzil of Ambagan area under Khulshi police station in the city. The victims were identified as Manowara Begum, 94, wife of Fazlur Rahman and Shah Meherun Nessa Begum (67), former Principal Officer of Rupali Bank. They hailed from Motlob of Chandpur district. The mother-and daughter were living at the ground floor of the four storied house while the other three floors are under construction.  Being informed by locals, the police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from reserved tank, said Sheikh Mohammad Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi police station.  “Apparently it seems to us that it is a pre-planned murder. However, we are yet to be confirmed about the reason behind the murder. We are looking into the matter,” added the OC.

“We suspect after murder the bodies were dumped into the water tank,” added the OC. High officials of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Detective Branch, and Criminal Investigation Department visited the crime scene. Maksudur Rahman, one of their neighbour said the deceased younger brother called him from USA that he could not contact with his sister and mother as their phone was found switched off. “He asked me to look into the matter then I went to their home at around 10:30am and found the gate is locked. However later, after entering the home we found the almirah of the house was broken. Then we informed the police.”

Belal Uddin claiming nephew of the deceased Meherun Nessa said it is a pre-planned murder. “We are suspecting they were killed for their property and money. My aunt often used to say that the local influential people were disturbing her. She asked us to look for buyer to sale the land.”
