Tk 316.88cr project okayed for enhancing food stock capacity

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) yesterday approved six projects, including one to repair and construct food godowns with an estimated cost of Tk 316.88 crore for enhancing the food stock capacity across the country, reports UNB.

The approval came from the second ECNEC meeting of the 2018-‘19 fiscal year, held at the NEC conference room here with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

“The ECNEC meeting approved six projects with a total estimated cost of Tk 2,920.39 crore. Of the cost, Tk 2,070.14 crore will come from the national exchequer, while Tk 625.70 crore as project assistance and Tk 224.55 crore from the organisations’ own fund,” State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan while briefing reporters after the meeting.

Of the six projects, four are new and the rest two are revised ones.

About food godown projects, the state minister said the project will be implemented by June 2021 in 194 upazilas and seven city corporations under 62 districts of the country.

According to the Planning Ministry, some 550 food godowns will be repaired, while 20 new structures will be constructed under the project.

Besides, providing equipment to three laboratories in Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna, procurement of one jeep and one pick-up van, installation of close circuit cameras, solar panels and IPSs in 725 structures are among the key activities of the project.

The meeting also approved the Construction of Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (1strevised) Project, which will be established at Rupganj in Narayanganj with an estimated cost of Tk 1,303.50 crore by December 2020.

The four other projects approved at the meeting are Width Extension of Maidji-Rajganj-Choyani-Basurhat-Chandraganj Regional Highway involving Tk 252.16 crore, Land Acquisition Link for ongoing Construction of Khanjahan Ali Airport under Public Private Partnership Project involving Tk 217.49 crore, Vertical Extension of Circuit Houses in 37 Districts Project at a cost of Tk 170.56 crore, and Further Development of Bangladesh Agricultural University Project involving Tk 659.80 crore.
