39 RU students to receive gold medals

A total of 39 former students of the Rajshahi University (RU) will get goldmedals and certificate for their outstanding results in the academic career at graduation and post- graduation level. The decision came from the 42nd meeting of RU Award Committee on Wednesday while vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan was in the chair, AHM Aslam Hossen, deputy registrar of academic section, confirmed the news. Attending as the chief guest Nurul Islam Nahid, Education Minster will be hand over the gold medals and the certificate at an award giving ceremony on July 26 at the university senate building. Besides, vice-chancellor of National University Professor Dr Harun-or- Rashid has expected to present as special guest while RU vice chancellor Prof Dr  M Abdus Sobhan will preside over the programme.

Mosquito coils distributed at JU

Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the distribution of mosquito coils among JU students at the senate hall of the university about at 11 am yesterday. ACI Limited in association with Jahangirnagar University Science Club (JUSC) started the anti-mosquito campaign on the campus. Prof Farzana Islam said, ‘As it is now rainy season, it is the high time of spreading various kinds of mosquito born diseases including Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria which are very common in our country. By conducting such campaign, we will able to prevent such mosquito born diseases’. She urged the university authorities to be careful about the uses of coil as it has to keep aflame that could be blazed up anytime and might be a cause of big mishap. She handed over the mosquito coil boxes to the provosts of different dormitories, dept chairmen and officials of the university. JU Pro-VC Professor Dr Amir Hussain, Dean of Biological Sciences faculty Professor Dr Abdul Jabber Hawlader, Advisor of JUSC Professor Dr Khabir Uddiin, JU Registrar Rahima Kanez and ACI Oofficial Kamrul Hasan addressed the function among others.

3-day workshop on printmaking begins at RU

A three-day workshop on printmaking started at Rajshahi University (RU) on Monday. Cosmos Foundation arranged the workshop at the RU's Fine Arts Faculty where a total of 30 students from across the country participated. At the beginning of the workshop a printmaking machine was handed over to the Painting, Oriental Art and Printmaking Department from Cosmos Foundation. Professor Gulnahar Begum of Painting, Oriental Art and Printmaking of the university inaugurated the workshop at the department premises at 12 noon. Among others, Professor Siddhartha Shankar Talukdar, assistant Professor Md Amirul Islam, Executive Artistic Manager at Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Foundation representative, Sourav Chowdhury and CCO of Cosmos Book ARK Reepon addressed the inaugural ceremony. Professor Amirul Momanin Chowdhury of Graphic Design, Crafts and History of Art Department will operate the workshop which will conclude at 5pm today.

United International University teacher wins award

Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, director of Centre for Energy Research of United International University has been honoured with the Education Leadership Award 2018 for his pioneering role and excellence in education, research, leadership and teaching in the field of renewable energy. The award was given to Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury on the 7th World Education Congress at Mumbai in India recently. Shahriar Ahmed obtained his BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from BUET in 1997. Later he completed his MSc in Renewable Energy from University of Oldenburg, Germany. He is the founding director of the Centre for Energy Research at UIU. He has developed a solar photovoltaic applied research laboratory equipped with advanced facilities at his university by the grant support from the World Bank and IDCOL.
