Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting in Dhaka today

 A two-day long 14th head of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (ACGAM) will begin from today at a hotel in the capital, says a press release. The working level meeting will be conducted for 2 days under arrangement of Bangladesh Coast Guard Force for the first time. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP will inaugurate the programme as chief guest. Rear Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, Director General Bangladesh Coast Guard Force will be present as special guest. 41 representatives from 18 Asian countries coast guard maritime agencies and RECAAP–ISC will participate in the meeting.

RMG workers block city road

Several hundred garment workers blocked Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue at Tejturibazar in the capital yesterday morning protesting the closure of their factory without any prior notice. The workers of Gold Star Design Limited have blocked Farmgate to Karwan Bazar for over 30 minutes halting all vehicular movement in the area during morning rush hours.Huge traffic congestion was created on both sides of the VIP road and its nearby alleys. The garment workers alleged that the authorities shut the factory after hanging a notice on the main gate without paying the Eid bonus to the staffs and workers.

3 killed in Ctg road accident

Three persons were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a goods-laden truck and a motorbike in Sheikherkhil area under Banshkhali upazila In Chattogramm yesterday noon. The victims were identified as motorcycle rider Nur Hossain, 28, hailed from Banskhali, Abdul Latif Khan, 45, hailed from Barisal district and Mohammad Rubel, 25, hailed from Cox’s Bazar district. The accident occurred in the area at about 12.30 pm when the truck knocked the motorcycle and suddenly caught fire, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured, said Nurnabi, sub-inspector of Banshkhali police station. The injured persons were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he added.

Meeting of public accounts committee held

The 88th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts was held yesterday at the Cabinet room of Jatiya Sangsad. Presided over by the chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts Dr Mahiuddin Khan Alamgir, the meeting was also attended by committee members M Abdus Shahid, Panchanan Biswas, M Rustum Ali Faraji and M Afsarul Amin. The meeting discussed about some 11 audit objections included in the compliance audit report 2011-2012 carried out by the Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh’s office on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism for the fiscal year 2010-11 involving an amount of Taka 5,88,29,871, said a press release. It said the committee, also recommended resolving those audit objections in light of its directives.

Death anniv of Khurshid Chowdhury today

The thirteenth death anniversary of Begum Khurshid Chowdhury, wife of former president late Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury will be observed today, says a press release. To mark the day Qurankhwani and Milad Mahfil has been arranged at Nagbari Jame Masjid in TangaiL. All have been requested to pray to Allmighty Allah for the salvation of the departed soul. Begum Khurshid Chowdhury was the youngest daughter of late Abu Muhammad Nasiruddin, a senior Bengal Civil Service official hailing from Elachipur, Manikganj. She was a student of Kolkata Lady Brabome College founded by Sher-e- Bangla AK Fazlul Huq.
