16 DU students get Jagannath Hall Trust Fund Scholarship

Sixteen meritorious students of Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded ‘Jagannath Hall Trust Fund Scholarship’ for their outstanding academic performances. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function held yesterday at the VC’s lounge of the university. The recipients of scholarship are- Sujan Chandra Roy, Sujan Das, Elius Murmu, Pobin Chandra Barman, Palash Roy, Biplob Baroi, Dhaneswar Roy, Apu Datta, Shuvra Biswas, Partha Sarkar, Dulal Das, Tushar Sarkar, Joy Chowdhury, Milan Kumar Das, Mrinal Chandra Roy and Shourav Kirtiniya. While addressing the programme, Prof Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to maintain a congenial academic atmosphere on the campus for making Bangladesh a prosperous country. “Students have to equip themselves with moral values and patriotism to become worthy citizens,” he said. Treasurer of DU Prof Md Kamal Uddin, Provost of the Jagannath Hall Prof Asim Sarkar, Syndicate Member SM Bahalul Majnun, Acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman and House Tutors of the hall were present on this occasion.

Discussion on democracy and elections held

An interactive discussion on ‘Democracy and Elections: Importance of Voting Among Youth’ was held University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) yesterday, says a press release. In cooperation with ULAB, the programme was organised by Civic Education organisation Change Makers with the support from the  American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka. Bill Moeller, Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs, US Embassy, Dhaka delivered his speech in an interactive discussion as the speaker.  Moeller also received questions from the participants. Professor Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees, faculty members and about 200 students attended the programme.

DWTRI, BRAC University sign MoU

RANGPUR: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday between Dr Wazed Training and Research Institute (DWRTI) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) and Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) of BRAC University. The MoU was singed at a function held at the conference room of the administrative building of BRUR on the campus this afternoon, said a press release. Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah of BRUR and Executive Director of Center for Peace and Justice of BRAC University Manjur Hasan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.
