‘Drug trader’ hurt in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was injured in a reported gunfight with police at Baliadying in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi early Monday, reports UNB. The injured was identified as Matiur Rahman Moti, 30, son of Amir of Charkanapara in the upazila, and an accused in 10 drug-related cases. Abdur Razzak, senior assistant superintendent of the district police, said police conducted a drive in the area around 3am to recover arms and drugs.

When the law enforcers reached the area, a gang of drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left Moti injured with bullets. The injured was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Three policemen were also injured in the incident.

Police recovered four machetes, 200gm of heroine and cash Tk from the spot.
