Man gets life for killing wife

Netrokona: A court here on Sunday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment as he killed his wife at Faridpur villageof Sadar upazila in the district in 2017, reports UNB.

The convict was identified as Saiful Islam, 35, a local rickshaw puller and a son oflate Abdul Hai of Faridpur village.

Netrakona District and Session Judges Court Judge, KM Raseduzzaman Raja passed the order and finedthe convict tk 5,000 or in default to serve another one month jail.

According to the case statement, Saiful hacked his wife Ruma Akter, 23, to death with sharp weapon over a family feud and fled on August 29 in 2017. Victim’s brother filed a case with Netrakona police station in this regard.

2 arrested with deer, pistols

Satkhira: Members of Coast Guard arrested two suspected poachers along with three deer and two pistols from Deboki in the Sundarbans under Satkhira range early yesterday, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Abdul Aziz, and Anarul Islam of Shyampur upazila.

A team of coast guards conducted the drive in the area around2:30amand arrested the duo along with deer and pistols from the spot, said Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station.

Two workers die inhaling toxic gas

Two workers died after inhaling toxic gas in a septic tank of a house at Maligas area in Tentulia upazila in the district on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Bablu Mia, 20, son of Alauddin, hailing from Mirgar area in Sadar upazila and Mahbub Hossain, 30, son of Khayrul Islam of Bakshigoch area of Tentulia upazila.

Office-in-charge of Tentulia Police Station Jahurul Islam said one of the workers climbed down into the septic tank at Gamir Uddins’s house and fell sick.

When the other worker got down in the tank to rescue him he also fell sick.

Later, locals rescued the duo and took them Panchagarh Mordern Hospital where doctor declared them dead.

Mymensingh-Jamalpur rail link restored

Mymensingh: The train communication between Mymensingh and Jamalpur was restored yesterday afternoon after 17 hours of disruption following derailment of a local train at Mintu College Road intersection in the city on Sunday night, reports UNB.

Railway station superintendent Jahirul Islam, said ‘Dewanganj local train’ veered off the track around 8:30 pm as it collided with the motorcycle on a level crossing in the area.

 After the incident, a relief train came to spot at night and salvaged the train around 1pm on Monday.

Meanwhile, a four-member probe committee, led by railway traffic inspector Nurul Islam, has been formed.

Sand trader found dead in Pabna

Pabna: Police recovered the body of a sand trader from a brickfield at Charsadirajpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shahjahan Khan, 55, son of Chandan Khan, a resident of the village in Dogachi union.

Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said locals spotted the body in the morning and informed police.

Later, police recovered the body.

Seminar on use of arsenic devices held in Jashore

A seminar on the use of arsenic devices was held at Ueno Arsenic Centre here on Sunday, reports UNB.

Asia Arsenic Network (AAN), Japan organised the seminar funded by the USAID with Sachie Tsushima, AAN country manager, in the chair.

Speakers at the seminar discussed the technical side of the use of arsenic devices supplied by the AAN.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Debprosad Paul, Associate Professor Dr Saibur Rahman Mollah of environment science and technology department at Jessore University of Science and Technology, USAID representative Shayan Shafi and AANPrincipal Investigator Dr Ahammadul Kabir were, among others, present on the occasion.
