K S Firoz turns 74

Legendary actor K S Firoz, also known as Khondoker Shahid Uddin Firoz, turns 74 today. The actor is planning to spend his birthday with family members. Although many artistes of his age are not seen on celluloid now, Firoz is still acting in numerous projects.

DhakaLive has news that the actor at present participated in the shooting of Mizanur Rahman Labu’s new drama serial ‘Priyo Paribar’ in Uttara of the capital. Here, he will be seen playing the character of a father.

Besides, the actor has acted regularly in Rahmatullah Tuhin’s ‘Jokhon Kokhono’ and Sayed Shakil’s ‘Prem Nagar’.

Firoz said: “By the grace of almighty Allah, I am well and leading a healthy life. I’m also acting on a regular basis. I am going to spend my birthday with my family members. Please pray for me.”

Although Firoz was born in Moshang village under the Ujirpur Upazila of Barisal, he was brought up in Dhaka’s Lalbag area. His father AJM Saidur Rahman was popularly known as Ujir Mia in the area. Firoz’s parents are no more now. However, he remembers them on his birthday.

The actor made a foray into the acting arena by joining the popular theatre troupe ‘Theatre’. With this troupe, the actor appeared in noted plays such as ‘Shat Ghater Kanakori’, ‘King Lear’ and ‘Rakkhoshi’. The actor received rave reviews for his acting in ‘King Lear’ in the title role under Kamal Uddin Nilu’s direction.

Firoz made his small-screen debut in tele-drama titled ‘Dip Tobuo Jwoley’, directed by Zaman Ali Khan and scripted by Shafiuzzaman. Dolly Ibrahim acted opposite the actor in the tele-drama. The actor also played in Zia Ansari’s ‘Protishruti’, a tele-drama.

Firoz made his first appearance in the big screen with film ‘Lawarish’. The actor then took a long break and later came back and acted in several movies, including Abu Sayeed’s ‘Shankhanad’ and ‘Banshi’, and Murad Parvez’s ‘Chandragrahan’ and ‘Brihonnola’.
