Golam Mohammed’s solo painting exhibition begins at AFD

A twelve-day solo painting exhibition by Golam Mohammed Joarder titled ‘Ruposhi Bangla’ (The Beauteous Bangal) has begun at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi in the capital. The Inaugural ceremony of this exhibition was held on Friday, 6 July 2018.

Eminent artist professor Samarjit Roy Chowdhury inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest on the gallery premises yesterday evening.

Golam Mohammed Joarder, who holds a BFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka and has two published novels under his illustrious belt, found the ‘nature’ as his muse for this painting exhibition titled ‘Ruposhi Bangla’ (The Beauteous Bengal).

The ‘nature’ in his paintings, he states, consists of man and man’s circumstances. To him these two elements render as imaginal as well as abstract in composition. Joarder prefers the abstractionism, as to him the concrete form is 2-dimensional — either true or fake. The abstractionism, however, is open-ended, interpretable to the observer — one either understands a great deal from it or not. Joarder keeps that observer-to-be in his mind. His canvasses thus invite colours that are, by his own account, gravitative.

The 1st solo art exhibition of the artist was held from November 4 to 10 at Nalinikanth Bhattasali Art Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum in 2012, while the 2nd solo art exhibition was held at Chuadanga Zila Shilpakala Academy in 2015.

He  participate in the 16th Asian Art Biennale, Bangladesh in 2014 and also in the International Minieature Art Biennale (Dhaka) in 2015.

The exhibition remains open to all till July 17 and can be visited according to the following schedule:  Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday (9am to12pm and 5pm to 8pm). Closed on Sunday.

AFD: 26 Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi
