JU Rotaract Club gets new committee

The Rotaract Club of Jahangirnagar University (JU) elected a 14-member new executive body for the next one year.

Zahirul Islam Tamim of Anthropology and Md Selim Reza of Public Administration were made President and General Secretary of the new committee respectively.

The new committee was announced yesterday at its annual meeting held at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of the university.

The other office bearers of the committee are – Vice President Addul Mannan Munna, Ashfakuzzaman Joint Secretary Abdul Kader, Sharifuzzaman Nakib, Treasurer Mahamudul Islam, International Service Director Rudro Azad as International Service director, Club Service Director Asaduzzaman, Community Service Director Harunur Rashid, International Service Director Azad, Financial Service Director Muhammad Khalilur Rahman, Editor Mumtarin Jannat Oishee, Joint Editor Hamimul Islam, Zubayer Kamal , Sergeant-at-Arms Abdul Karim and OsmanGoni, the release added.

Besides, Prof Kabirul Bashar and former President Swapan Kumar Haldar has made adviser of the organization for next one year.

Mentionable, Rotaract Club of Jahangirnagar were established in 1992 and conducting different social and community development activities on the campus.

RU celebrates 65th founding anniversary

The teachers, students and officials of the Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday celebrated its 65th founding anniversary amid a festivity and fanfare on the campus.

Marking the day, varsity authorities chalked out colourful processions, discussions, tree plantation and rally. RU vice chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the programmes around 10am through releasing the balloons, pigeons and hosts the university half-mast flag in front of the university administrative building.

Students, teachers and other staff of the university were present at that time in the ceremony. After that the VC also planted a tree near the senate building of the university.

A colorful procession with banners and placards was set out on the campus at about 10:30am while RU vice-chancellor led the procession and marching different roads of the campus and ended in front university senate building.

All the important buildings of the university were nicely decorated with colorful lightings the day before to mark the founding anniversary. RU marched its journey on July 6, 1953 with only 161 students and 68 teachers in 6 departments under 3 faculties.  At present, the university has over 1,231 teachers in 58 departments under 9 faculties, along with 9 research institutes and 18 residential halls - 11 for male students and 6 for female, another Sheed Mir Abdul Kayyum International Dormitory for international students and researchers - 37,248 are regular students, 43 PhD holders, 106 MPhil fellows and 149 researchers on the campus.  Prof ItratHossainZuberi was the first VC of the university.

 Among others, RU pro vice chancellor Prof DrAnanada Kumar Saha, Treasurer Prof Mostafizur Rahman Al Arif, Proctor Prof Luthfor Rahman, Public Relation Officer Prof DrProvash Kumar Karmakar and provost of different dormitories were present here.
