Youth gunned down in Jashore

Jashore: The bullet-hit body of an unidentified young man was found at Shankarpur in the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.

Tipped off that two gangs of criminals locked into a gunfight in the area, police rushed there around 3:30 am and recovered the body of the young man, aged about 30, from the spot, said Tarek Nahyan, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station. Later, the law enforcers recovered one shutter gun, one bullet and five bombs from the scene.

Youth stabbed dead in Sirajganj

Sirajganj: Police recovered the body of a young man from a jute field at Pipulbaria village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Sangram, 30, son of Akther Hossain of the same village.

On information, police recovered the body from the jute field around 10 am and sent it to Sirajganj Sadar hospital's morgue for autopsy, said officer -in- charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Daud.

Sangram's body bore several stab injury marks, the OC added. A case was filed in this regard.

Two murder suspects arrested

Cumilla: Detectives arrested two suspects from Gazipur village in Titash upazila on Thursday in a case filed over the murder of a young man who was shot dead on May 2, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Mofazzal Hossain, 31, son of Jalal Uddin of Titash upazila, and Sumon Khan, 38, son of Babul Khan of Daudkandi upazila.

At a press briefing on Thursday, DB sub-inspector Shah Kamal Akand said police raided Bhuiya Bari on a tip-off and arrested Mofazzal and Sumon along with ‘three firearms and 20 bullets’.Of the arrestees, Mofazzal took part in the killing mission directly, said Nasir Mridha, officer-in-charge of DB. On May 2 last, Mohammad Islam, 35, of Bazra village in Daudkandi uapzila was shot dead.

Later, victim’s wife Shumi Akter filed a case with Daudkandi Model Police Station.

Schoolboy killed in road crash

Habiganj: A schoolboy was killed as a battery-run easy-bike hit him at Richi village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Joy, 10, son of Akbar Miah, a resident of Brac school in the area.

Witnesses said the easy-bike ran over Joy while he was playing in front of his house in the morning, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was rushed to SadarAdhunik Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Minor boy drowns in Panchagarh

A minor boy drowned in a pond at Chortistapara village under Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district on Thursday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Sadequr, 3, son of Safiar Rahman of the village.Family sources said Sadequr was playing outside their house near a pond. Suddenly, he slipped into the pond water and drowned. After a frantic search, family members found his body floating on the pond water.Locals recovered the body from the pond and rushed to Debiganj hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead.

Debiganj Sadar UP chairman Abu Torab Sarker confirmed the incident.

Farmers get jute fibre extraction machines in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: A total of 22 entrepreneurs of three upazilas in the district got Aashkols (Jute fibre extraction machines) from RDRS Bangladesh today to ensure the quality of the jute fibre to earn fair prices against the output, reports BSS.

A simple function was also held at the conference room of Gaibandha Govt.  Technical Training Center (GGTTC) at Farazipara, an outskirt of the district town, on Wednesday noon with programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief guest and Principal of GGTTC M. Atiqur, Sadar upazila agriculture officer AKM Sadiqul Islam and chief inspector of jute here Mokbul Hossain were present at the event as the special guests while regional manager of Practical Action Bangladesh Nehal Azmat Mohi was the moderator.
