‘Child lifter’ held in Ctg

A woman was caught for his alleged involvement in lifting a child from near Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday. She was identified as Anwara Begum, 40, wife of Abul Hashem, hailed from Hazipara of Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram.

“I found the woman and my daughter Nafisa passing the road near CMCH at around 2:30pm and caught the woman,” said Md Shahjahan, father of the victim. My wife was asleep at that time, he said. “Anwara was handed over to Panchlaish Police Station,” said Ala Uddin, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost.

Two injured in factory fire   

Two people sustained burn injuries while dousing a fire that broke out at a foam factory and its warehouse in Borobari area in Gazipur early Tuesday.

The identity of the injured could not be known immediately, said Md Jakir Hossain, senior station officer of Joydebpur Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The fire broke out at ‘Banjing Bangladesh Limited’ around 5 am and engulfed the adjoining warehouse, he added. On information, six fire-fighting units from Joydebpur, Tongi and Uttara stations rushed there, and doused the fire around 10:30, said Aktaruzzaman, Deputy Director, Fire Service and Civil Defence,Gazipur.

The cause of fire and extent of damage could not be known immediately, he added.

AL to hold joint meeting Friday

A joint meeting of Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) and its Advisory Council will be held at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue at 5 pm on Friday.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting, said a press release.

Party’s General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader requested all concerned to remain present at the meeting in time. Besides, AL national election conducting committee meeting, scheduled to be held on the same day, has been postponed.

Repolling in 8 suspended GCC’s centres July 19

Reelection of eight polling centers of the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), earlier suspended due to different irregularities, will be now be held on July 19.

An official release, signed by joint secretary Forhad Ahmed of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, said this as it sent this directive to the GCC returning officer yesterday afternoon.     ndependent/agency

“Although it was scheduled to hold reelection in nine polling centres but now polls will be held only at eight centres in GCC on July 19,” the release added.
