Newly-recruited employees continue hunger strike

Newly recruited 212 employees continued their hunger strike on the Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) demanding their salaries and outstanding dues. They began a fast-unto-death programme from Sunday. They also organised a sit-in programme in front of the office of director of the hospital and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. Due to strike regular services of the largest public sector health care providers in southern region almost collapsed. Old employees of the hospital also expressed solidarity with the newly recruited employees; programme,

Only limited scale emergency services are open and the environment of the hospital became most unhealthy, said the victim patients. Modasser Kabir, president of the fourth class employee’s welfare association of SBMCH, president of the programmes, said  that although the newly recruited 212 employees joined the service completing all official formalities, but they yet to get any salary and passing days with family members in vulnerable condition.
