Sirajganj: Hundreds of houses of seven villages and crops of around three hundred hectors of land under Chouhali upazila in Sirajganj district were inundated due to the Jamuna river overflowing in Chouhali upazila, reports UNB.

Hundreds of families of these areas, living near the bank of the river, were found being surrounded by the waterlogging while others whose houses were engulfed in the river, are spotted living under the open sky, causing immense suffering to the people.

Many families shifted their houses from their previous residence in those villages including Brahmangram and Arkandi village. Not only were the houses and roads of the villages destroyed, over 3 hectares of crops along 6 kilometers of the upazila were ruined in the monsoon flooding.

In the space of only two months this is the second flood to occur in the region under Enayetpur Police Station, triggering panic of being eroded down the water body to the inmates.

The river erosion has gone up due to continuous increase in the Jamuna river for last seven days said Engineer of Sirajganj Water Development Board Rafiqul Islam adding that concerned ministry has sanctioned TK 5 crores for embankment that if implemented, would reduce the flooding in the area.
