Tigers draw 2-day match with WI XI

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh bowlers couldn’t make as much impact as they were expected in the two-day practice match against West Indies Board President’s XI. The match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground ended in a draw before Bangladesh bowlers failed to get all of the wickets of the opponents.

In reply to Bangladesh’s 403 for all out, the local team scored 310 for eight as the bails were drawn. Shimron Hetmyer was the top scorer of the side with 123 while Shamarh Brooks made 72. They shared 130 runs for the fourth wicket before the visitors made early inroads, reducing them to 55 for three.

The local side’s start was as disastrous as it could be with Abu Jayed Rahi and Rubel Hossain claiming early wickets to make them two down for just three. Tagenarine Chandarpaul, the son of Shivnarine Chandarpual, remained solid in the face of some effective attack and settled the nerve with a 52-run partnership with Brooks. Kamrul Islam Rabbi got the better of Junior Chandarpaul for 24 before Brooks and Hetmyer kept Bangladesh bowlers at bay.

Earlier, Bangladesh senior batsmen showed some impressive batting but the other batsmen remained vulnerable as usually. The likes of Mominul Haque, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das, Nurul Hasan Sohan couldn’t reach even double digit figure, that definitely left Bangladesh some soul searching ahead of the first Test, starting on July 4 in Antigua.
