Sayeed Ahmed’s ‘Shesh Nawab’
to be staged at Shilpakala today

‘Shesh Nawab’—the fifth and the last play of late internationally-acclaimed playwright Sayeed Ahmed will be staged today evening at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

Produced by Charuniram Theatre, the play has been directed by Gazi Rakayet.

The play is about the last independent Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah and his philosophy of the war. The alternative presentation of the historic Palashi event will be delivered through the play. Besides, a few words in the play like ‘Palashi’, ‘Siraj’ ‘Imperialism’ will provide food for new thought.

Sayeed Ahmed was a unique person in his thoughts and works. For being a public servant, he spent his time in different countries and even got chance to befriend with the famous litterateur like Edward Saeed. Besides an art critic and Drupadi musician, Sayeed Ahmed had become a famed dramatist. He added a new dimension to the country’s theatre arena in 60s by writing absurd plays in European style. He died on January 10 in 2010 and awarded with the prestigious Ekushey Padak in the same year for his extraordinary contribution to the theatre.

Where: BSA, Segun Bagicha

When: 7pm, today
