Mayoral candidates gear up campaign

Our Correspondent, Rajshahi

With the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election round the bend, Awami League-backed mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton is going through a busy time attending Eid re-unions with various organizations, while BNP-backed mayoral candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul is trying to reorganize local leaders and activists.

To fix the election plan, the BNP Rajshahi city unit organized an interactive meeting with leaders and activists of local units at their party office on Saturday morning.

In the meeting presided over by Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, president of the BNP Rajshahi city unit, senior leader Mizanur Rahman Minu, advisor to the BNP chairperson, was present as the chief guest. Mizanur Rahman Minu told leaders and activists that they must save the election from vote robbery by sacrificing their lives, if needed, and ensure the victory of their RCC candidate again.

Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul urged BNP and 20-party alliance's leaders and activists to keep watch at all centre on the day of voting.

Meanwhile, as part of the Eid re-union and greetings exchange programmes, AL-backed mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended a meeting with the city's khatibs, imams and muezzins at a restaurant on Saturday afternoon. At the meeting, Liton said now there was no chasm between the government and alem-walama. The government had taken many good initiatives for them that would change their fate.

Meanwhile, Barishal correspondent adds: After submitting nomination papers candidates of Barishal City Corporation elections began meeting and exchanged greetings with voters.

On the other hand, city AL joint-secretary and mayor candidate Serniabat Sadek Abdullah continued meeting with voters, workers and councilor candidates at his residence, said his personal assistant Sumon Serniabat.
