Publisher Bacchu’s killers yet to be identified

UNB

Despite eight days passing and four high-level law enforcement units investigating, the murderers of CPB leader and publisher Shahjahan Bacchu are yet to be identified, reports UNB. Munshiganj Senior Assistant Superintendent of police Md Asaduzzaman said yesterday that the police are investigating CCTV footage to identify the killers of Bacchu. He also added that the investigation is moving at a satisfactory pace.

But till now, they have merely recorded statements of witnesses and questioned Bacchu's family members and others for motives behind his murder, with no arrests being made so far.

A top law enforcement official, wishing to remain anonymous, refused to comment on the investigation findings, as well as whether there is any link to Bacchu's death with militant outfit Ansar ul Islam.

District superintendent of Police Md Jayedul Alam said that various technologies are being used to identify the killers, as well as looking into the CCTV footage of all the exit points from the district. He also said the motive behind the killing will be unveiled soon.

The SP also added that four motives are being looked into: firstly, whether or not Bacchu had published any books hurting religious sentiments, any family conflict, business clashes and/or conflict with anyone else.

Eid vacation also slowed down investigation progress, he said, but the specialised units such as the Anti-Terrorism Unit, RAB intelligence, Counter-Terrorismand Transnational CrimeUnit and others are trying their best to gather the evidence in the case.

On June 11, Shahjahan Bacchu, former general secretary of district CPB and owner of Bishakha Publication, was shot to death by miscreants at Kakalodi of Sirajdikhan upazila.
