2 held with 38,000 yaba in Ctg

Chattogram: Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested two people reportedly along with 38,000 yaba tablets in a covered van from Shaheednagar of the city on Sunday. The arrestees were identified as Md Abu Taher, 40, son of Hasu Miah of Ramu in Cox's Bazar, and Md Alam, 24, son of Abdul Kashem of Ukhia in the district. Senior Assistant Director (Media) of Rab-7 Mimtanur Rahman said acting on a tip-off, an elite force tam set up a check post in Bayazid Bostami area and started searching vehicles. At one point, law enforcers challenged a covered van and recovered the yaba pills after searching it. Later, they arrested the duo, he said.

35 drug addicts jailed in Cumilla

Cumilla: A mobile court here on Sunday sentenced each of 35 drug addicts to 20 days imprisonment for consuming drugs. Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Dakshin Police Station, said police along with members of Border Guard Bangladesh, in a joint drive arrested the drug addicts from Ekbalia bordering area on Saturday night. Later in the morning, a mobile court led by Sadar Dakshin Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rupali Mandal sentenced them. Meanwhile, all of the addicts were sent to the central jail, the OC added.

Chevron provides support for quality edn

Chevron Bangladesh will provide financial support to improve quality of teaching in four schools in Bibiyana gas field area. In a press release, the US oil and gas company said in its efforts to boost quality education in its areas of operation under its social investment programmes, Chevron has continued its support of four schools near its Bibiyana Gas Field, reports UNB. A simple ceremony was held recently with representatives of the four selected schools at the gas field. The funds will enable school management to recruit additional faculty in English, Science and Mathematics to improve quality of teaching in those subjects. .

4 of dope gang held in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a drive arrested four alleged members of a dope gang commonly known as ‘Agyan Party’ from city’s rail station area under Kotwali police station yesterday morning. The arrested were identified as Rafique Mia Babul, 50, Mohammad Monir, 35, Mehedi Hasan, 28, and Mohammad Shahab Uddin, 30. All of them are residents  Based on secret information, a team of Kotwali thana police arrested them while they were allegedly taking preparation for snatching, said Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-Charge of Kotwali thana. The police team also recovered medicines used for making people senseless and three knives from their possessions, Mohsin said.

Two siblings drown in Barishal

Barishal: Two siblings drowned in a pond in Gabtala area of the city on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Miraz, 5, and Mehedi, 6, sons of Ripon Sardar of the area. Locals said the two minor boys slipped into the pond while playing near it in the evening. After a hectic search, locals found the floated bodies and took those to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
