Bangladesh Test squad for Windies tour named

Jayed gets maiden Test call
Sports Reporter

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the Test squad for tour of West Indies 2018. The players have been asked to report to National Team Head Coach Steve Rhodes at the SBNCS, Mirpur at 1 2pm on 20 June.

The Bangladesh side is scheduled to leave for the Caribbean on  June 23 to play two Tests, three ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals. The first Test starts at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on  July 4 while the second Test is scheduled at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica from 12 July:

Abu Jayed has received a maiden call-up to the Bangladesh Test squad for the tour of West Indies as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 15-man squad for the two-Test series on Monday (June 18). Mustafizur Rahman, who has been struggling with a toe injury, has been put on standby.

Jayed has featured in three T20Is for Bangladesh with his last appearances coming against Afghanistan in the series in Dehradun earlier this month. Liton Das is likely to take the 'keeping responsibilities while Musfiqur Rahim is expected to play as a pure batsman to reduce workload.

The selectors wanted Yeasin Arafat in the squad but his inclusion wasn't approved by board president Nazmul Hasan. That opened the door for Shafiul Islam as Hasan wanted experience in the squad.

"We have decided to change Yeasin Arafat with Shafiul [Islam] in the last minute as we felt that we need some experience," chief selector Minhajul Abedin told media. "We decided this as there was another debutant pace bowler in Abu Jayed so we did not want to take any chance."

The selectors have also decided to recall Rubel Hossain and Nurul Hasan for the important series while Sabbir Rahaman, Abdur Razzak, Nayeem Hasan, Tanbir Hayder and Mossadek Hossain failed to find a place.

Rubel last played a Test against South Africa in October last year while Hasan's only Test appearance was in New Zealand in January last year. Shakib, who decided to skip the Test series in South Africa and then was ruled out of the Test series at home against Sri Lanka, will lead the side.
