Budget pro-people, realistic

Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in its reaction here last night called the proposed national budget for the 2018-19 fiscal as pro-people, time- befitting and realistic for building a middle income nation, report BSS.

After assessment of the proposed budget with the KCCI executive committee members and directors, its president Kazi Aminul Haque on behalf of the chamber hailed the proposed budget and suggested for its proper implementation.

He also praised the proposed budget to keep allocations for Mega Projects to enhance GDP growth rate and develop pro-people sectors like health, education, human resources, electricity, electronics raw material, iron and steel, construction material, medicine for cancer, poultry industry, kids food, social safety-net, transportation, communication and ICT.

The KCCI President termed the special initiatives for agriculture, rural uplift, creation of jobs, attaining self-reliance in coping with climate change impacts, utilization of external economic opportunities, enhancing remittance and creating newer export markets as appropriate.

He said enhanced subsidy and incentives in the agriculture sector and increase taxes for importing rice and maize would be effective in preserving interests of the farmers and hailed the decision for continuing current tax

facilities on importing essential goods for containing

inflation.

Besides, he termed the proposals in the proposed budget for reducing export taxes on sources for the hybrid vehicles, machineries of human haulers, gas cylinders for cars, frozen foods, jute, leather, vegetables and packed foods as very realistic.

Haque said exemption of taxes and rebates on imports of computer machineries, parts and accessories, server rack for cyber security, Wi-Fi, access point, firewall, finger print and biometric scanners and tax free e-commerce would further accelerate the process of digitization in building a middle-income nation.

Terming the proposed budget for the 2018- 2019 fiscal as pro-people, Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) opined that the budget will help the government continue its massive development programmes in the country., reports BSS

In an instant reaction on Thursday, RCCI President Md Muniruzzaman termed the proposed budget as pro-people and development oriented.

The chamber leader also says emphasis should be given on ensuring transparency and accountability in implementation of the ever-highest annual budget.

“Its implementation will not be impossible,” he said, adding that such budget was very needed to meet the gradually increasing demands of the nation. The budget will help reflect hopes and aspirations of general public, he said. He praised Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith for proposing the ever-biggest budget.

Meanwhile, leaders of different trade bodies, entrepreneurs, economists and leaders of different political parties also hailed the proposed national budget terming it as a pragmatic.

“The proposed budget is capable to contribute to the national development,” said Muhammad Ali Sarker, Chairman of Zila Parishad and former president of RCCI.

He added that the budget will obviously supplement the improvement process of national and socio-economic condition after expediting the GDP growth alongside

elevating human resource and reducing poverty. Ali says the proposed budget has clear-cut indications of giving emphasis towards the vital sectors like ICT, education, agriculture, health, fuel and power,

industry, investment and

 social safety net.

Liakat Ali, president of Bangladesh Silk Industries Owners Association, reacted to the proposed budget terming it as pro-people. “We have long been demanding division-based special budgetary allocation to uplift the Rajshahi region,” he added.
