MSC-Mariners hockey match abandoned

Sports Reporter

The last match of the Green Delta Premier Division Hockey League was stopped after 44 minutes due to a conflict with a goal decision when the match was going on one all draw.

The Metropolis Hockey League Committee yet to give any decision over the match. It just said in a statement that a decision of the unfinished match will be taken later on.

It was 13th minute of the second half, Shafiul Alam Shishir of Mariner touched on a long hit of Rezaul Babu before  entering into the post, Mohammedan demanded a review claiming that the stick of Babu was not reached the ball.

But the review decision went against them and they denied to play and after few minutes they agreed to play accepting the decision.

By this time umpires became fed up and left the ground but returned following the request with the officials and told both sides to start after taking 10 minutes warm up and Mohammedan returned in the field to play. But Mariner denied to play claiming that Mohammedan made 18 minutes late.

Meanwhile, Mohammedan took lead in the match on fourth minute with Gurjinder Singh striking very closely to the post and Mariner Young’s equalised on 44th minute with a ‘controversial goal’ scored by Shafiul Alam Shishir.

Nazirul Islam Nazu, the match commissioner told the reporters that as there was huge controversy and there was no option but to stop the match . The fate of the match hanged on the decision of the league committee.

In fact it has become habits that in every big matches were interrupted by the players of both sides when they demanded for review for time and again against the umpires.

No match could end in schedule 70 minutes rather than taking more than an hour.

Last year’s runners-up Abahani Limited finished their matches with 33 points. Before this match MSC earned 33 points, while Mariners followed them with 30 points.
