Malaysia’s April inflation up 1.4 percent

Malaysia’s inflation rate in April rose 1.4 per cent, slightly higher than the 1.3 per cent recorded in March, according to data released by the Malaysian statistics department Wednesday, reports Xinhua from Kuala Lumpur .   The index for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which accounted for 29.5 percent in the CPI weights, was up 2.6 percent in April.

Other major groups that recorded increases for the month were the indices for restaurants and hotels which rose 2.2 percent, health that increased by  2.1 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels which expanded 2 per cent. For the period of January to April, the CPI rate stood at 1.7 per cent.
